A pair of French Louis XVI style painted wood bergère chairs from the mid 19th century, with oval backs, carved twisted ribbon motifs, fluted legs, and distressed patina. Created in France at the beginning of Emperor Napoléon III's reign in the 1850s, this pair of bergères showcases the stylistic characteristics of the Louis XVI era. Each chair features an oval back carved on the upper rail with a twisted ribbon motif. The neutral toned upholstery is in overall good condition but is used. It is secured thanks to a brass nailhead trim. Two nicely curving upholstered arms with scrolling extremities flank the seat comprising of a custom cushion. The chairs are raised on fluted tapering legs decorated with waterleaves in their upper section while rosettes accentuate the carved apron. The chairs present a nicely distressed painted finish, with lots of wood showing through. With their clean lines and weathered appearance, this pair of Louis XVI style French bergère chairs circa 1850 will bring an undeniable touch of Classical elegance to any living room or bedroom.
