"A Mid-18th Century Leda And The Swan In Polychrome Wood"
A mid-18th century Leda and the Swan in polychrome woodLeda and the Swan
South German; mid-18th century
Polychrome wood; approximate size: 42.5 cm (h)
The present sculpture is a beautifully articulated rendering of Leda and the Swan carved in-the-round. A close comparison could be Johann Joachim Kändler’s model of Leda and the Swan executed for the Meissen factory workshop during the mid-18th century.
The polychromy refreshed, probably at a later date.
