Henri Quantin was born in Brussels in 1865. When he passed the age of 40, he enrolled in the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts, where he was taught by the renowned Belgian painters Jean Delville and Herman Richir. A versatile artist, Quantin produced portraits, studies of nudes, still lifes, interiors and landscapes. His style gradually evolved from classical towards a more Impressionist design, which he supplemented with his own personal pointillist technique from 1921 onwards. Much of his inspiration was drawn from the region of Auderghem, where he stayed at the Red Cloister, an Augustinian priory.
