Henri Carpentero – Country Scene – Circa 1850

Description :

"Henri Carpentero – Country Scene – Circa 1850"

Henri-Joseph Gommarus Carpentero. Belgian painter of genre scenes, portraits and landscapes. He was born March 31, 1820 in Antwerp and died on May 25, 1874 in Schaerbeek (Brussels).

Son of the painter Jean-Charles Carpentero, he was a pupil of Ferdinand Braekeleer and Nicaise Keyser. His works, including rustic scenes, are painted in the manner of Flemish artists of the seventeenth century, mastering the use of light and shadow that bring out the characters. His portraits and landscapes are also painted in this spirit of the 1840-1850 Antwerp School. Several of his paintings have appeared at auction all over Europe and the USA.
