Huge Pastel Landscape On Prepared Canvas

Very large ( 43"x 55") framed pastel on prepared canvas landscape animated by a herdsman foarding his cattle across a stream in a very scenic landscape. The effects of lighting and perspective are very well rendered. Custom original frame is hand carved wood in the Regence style and is a work of art itself. There is an inscription at the lower right corner that reads : d'apres g Andre N. Sabaut 64 ( I assume 1864 for the date of completion of this work.
