Juliette Deshayes - Paris Quays in Winter - Circa 1935

"Juliette Deshayes - Paris Quays in Winter - Circa 1935"

Juliette Charlotte Deshayes, French cubist painter and watercolourist, born February 1, 1900 in Pontoise (Val-d'Oise). She was a pupil of André Lhote in his famous Montparnasse academy, where she studied alongside the artists Tarsila do Amaral, Tamara de Lempicka, Hans Hartung and Anna Bergman, Aurélie Nemours and many painters from the School of Paris.

She exhibited regularly at the Salon des Indépendants and the Salon d'Automne from 1928 until 1952 and was invited to the Salon des Tuileries from 1933. Her work, influenced by her master and friend Lhote, mainly represented the urban landscape of Paris and the French countryside from a very personal cubist vision and conception, with expressionism and abstract influences.

Juliette Deshayes died on January 25, 2001 in Mirmande (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes), at the age of 100.
