The Harbour of Collioure – Signed A. Delaby – 1941

This oil on canvas painting is characterized by cool tones and the use of the technique of pointillism. It represents the harbour of Collioure, a picturesque French village on the Mediterranean coast just north of the Spanish border. In the foreground, a group of fishing boats and on the left, the Church of Our Lady of the Angels, built between 1684 and 1691 in a southern Gothic style. It is, with its famous bell tower (a former medieval lighthouse), practically surrounded by the sea on three sides. Signed A. Delaby and dated on the back: June 22, 1941.
