Louis Bentabole – The Three Masts, Circa 1870

Jean-Baptiste-Louis Bentabole, born in Paris on May 23, 1822, was a French waterscape and seascape painter. He lived in Paris, where he was a pupil of Eugene Isabey. From 1847 he exhibited almost annually at the Salons de Paris. His work is on display in the art museums of Reims, Rouen and La Rochelle. He died in Paris on November 30, 1880 at the age of 58 years.

This graphite drawing on brown paper with white gouache highlights represents three-mast sailboats moored in a port. The image is signed in the lower right corner.
